Watchfinder is an Internet site specialising in the sale of second-hand watches. Each year, it records the key queries typed into Google concerning approximately 2,000 different watch references. Watchfinder unveils its new survey of Google’s data over the year between September 2019 and 2020. These figures make it possible to draw up a ranking of the favourite watch brands of the French.
Rolex continues its momentum. For several years now, the brand has been at the top of the podium. Watchfinder analyzed more than 4.8 million searches on Google France, or about 405,000 per month. Rolex alone accounts for 1.7 million requests, which represents 35% of total searches on luxury watches.
Rolex is still the leader in luxury watches here. The top five global searches include four watches from the brand with the crown.
The Submariner has recorded 5 million annual searches worldwide, or about 430,000 per month. The Daytona follows it with 3.8 million searches per year, or 320,000 per month. Then the Datejust and the Oyster Perpetual take third and fourth place. The Royal Oak by Audemars Piguet came in 5th place. It is searched more than 1.4 million times a year, or 110,000 a month.
The reputation of the Rolex watch brand is confirmed by another ranking, that of Forbes France conducted with its collaborator Insightquest. The study is devoted to the behaviour and purchasing habits of French luxury consumers. While Chanel, Dior and Louis-Vuitton occupy the first three places in the top 20 of the French people’s favourite luxury brands, it is the watch brand Rolex that takes fourth place on the podium.
The French luxury watch market remains in good health despite the covid and the period of uncertainty. According to Francéclat, sales in France are already increasing by 2% in 2019 and are generating a turnover of 5.6 billion euros. French know-how contributes to this dynamism. In 2019, the production of French watches increases by 9% and reaches 349 million of CA.
After a 20% drop in turnover in 2020 due to the exceptional situation of covid, the sector remains resilient and watchmaking continues to fascinate internet users.
