What are the French’s favourite tourism brands?
Looking at the last two rankings, the tourism companies most appreciated by French travellers and tourists are not always French.
While we’ll have to wait until October 2021 to find out the results of the 2020 Travel d’Or ceremony, the 2020 edition already had its share of surprises.
Another ranking is that of Yougov, which mixes all sectors. The tourism players are making their presence felt and one of them even takes first place on the podium.
Eventiz Media Group is the leading media group for digital tourism and organizes the annual Travel d’or ceremony. This event was created by Frederic Vanhoutte, the founder of EMG, in 2009. At the time, the aim was to reward travel websites that had yet to establish a reputation.
Today, the tourism sector has changed a lot and travellers are using more and more the web to prepare their stays. Thus, the Travel d’Or award now judges tourism companies on all channels.
The principle? For one month, French internet users vote for their favourite tourism brands. The jury then decides on the results.
The 2020 edition was originally scheduled to take place on March 24, a few days after the lockdown began. The ceremony has been moved and we will have to wait until October 1 to find out the winners from among the more than 350 participating brands in 11 different categories.
In the meantime, let’s take a look back at the 2019 awards, as defined by over 212,000 voters.
Yougov is an international Internet-based market research company. It has a database that is updated daily by conducting surveys among Internet users. The ranking is carried out with a tool that tracks brands in real time by asking Internet users if they would recommend the brand to their friends and family.
In 2019, it gives the results of the brands most recommended by consumers across all sectors. A tourism brand takes the lead in the ranking: the Puy du Fou.
The amusement park has been a success since its creation in 1977: each year it attracts more than 2 million visitors. The Middle Ages are told in a spectacular way and seduce families and lovers of medieval history. There are even annual passes for the most enthusiastic. This park has found its audience. The model is beginning to spread in Europe, since Le Puy du Fou, the favourite brand of the French, has just been exported to Toledo.
In 5th and 6th place in the survey, Singapore Airlines and Emirates took the lead.
On the top 3 brands that grew the most between 2018 and 2019 is SNCF at number 1 and Air France at number 3. Two French companies that improve their reputation year after year.
Tourism has seen some real shocks in 2020 and businesses have had to reinvent themselves to stay in the minds of the French.
As a communications agency specialising in tourism, we are looking forward to the Travel d’Or awards in October to find out which brands are the French people’s favourites. It seems that responsible actions are valued for a more sustainable tourism.
